Chuck Close Response

Because it has been such a hot topic all semester for our class I feel that it's only appropriate to respond to Sarah's question about color versus black and white. Additionally, I find this question the most intriguing because these are not photographs, which is usually where we stumble upon the black and white/color controversy. Chuck Close is described as a painter who produces "Photo-Realist portraits." The pieces to me are first and foremost portraits and I feel like many people prefer formal portraits in black and white. However Close's style is similar to those of the few pop artists that I can think of. With that in mind, I personally lean towards color. Then again, I don't dislike the black and white images either.
